The Second World Symposium on Sustainable Transport and Liveability (WSSTL 2027) in Vienna welcomes your paper submissions dealing with the research that furthers our knowledge on the linkages between sustainable transport and livability of cities, which are affected by policy, planning, design, and engineering interventions. The Symposium will take place at TU Wien, located in the centre of Vienna, Austria from 30 March to 2 April 2027.
Call Topics
We particularly welcome papers dealing with following intersections between sustainable transport and factors affecting liveability.
1. Sustainable Transport and Well-being: This theme will focus on promoting physical, mental, economic, and social well-being through sustainable transport. The topics include exploring how sustainable transport interventions contribute to the overall well-being of individuals and communities, as well as interactions between them. It may include cognitive analyses of transport services, such as community transport and smart transport, as well as how sustainable transport can contribute to the development of social capital.
2. Sustainable Transport and Health and Happiness: This theme will focus on enhancing health and happiness through sustainable transport. The topics include unravelling how sustainable transport interventions can make society and individuals healthier and happier. It may include behavioural analyses of active travel and the aged society.
3. Sustainable Transport and Quality of Life, Equity and Social Justice: This theme will focus on creating liveable cities with improved quality of life through sustainable transport solutions. The topics include discussing strategies for building more liveable urban environments and enhancing quality of life, equity and social justice by prioritizing sustainable modes of transport. Investigating how sustainable transport interventions affect liveability and quality of life (QoL). Papers dealing with just transformation, transport and mobility poverty and inclusive mobility are also welcome under this topic.
4. Sustainable Transport and Safety, Accessibility, Affordability and Environmental Quality: This theme will focus on fostering safety, accessibility to mobility options as well as to facilities, amenities, services and opportunities for everyday lives and occasional needs, affordability and environmental quality through sustainable transport. The topics include addressing how sustainable transport impacts and interacts with these aspects. It may include spatial analyses of urban accessibility and street design, such as the X-minute city and walkable/bikeable streets. Papers dealing with the impact of safety and security on promoting sustainable transport through creating safe environment for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users, in terms of for example general safeties such as crimes, health-related aspects such as air quality, and traffic safety are also welcome.
5. Sustainable Transport and Disaster Resiliency: This theme will focus on building disaster resilience. The topics include investigating how sustainable transport can contribute towards improving disaster resiliency of urban transport systems.
6. Other aspects of Sustainable Transport related to Liveability and Quality of Life: we also welcome papers exploring additional dimensions of liveability and quality of life intersecting with sustainable transport. Topic may include the role of technology in enhancing liveability and quality of life through sustainable transport solutions. We also welcome vertical topics common to all of the above-mentioned aspects, such as appraisal methods for sustainable transport and liveable cities and participatory planning approaches.
Commonly to all topic areas, we welcome research dealing with specific groups, such as minority groups, mobility-impaired people, children and young people, and the elderly. Research focusing on the topic with specific regions, such as rural areas and remote communities is also welcome. We aim to cover sustainable transport and livability issues in both developed and developing economies with a potential of transferability to other locations.
We particularly encourage submissions of researches that are cross-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, or trans-disciplinary. Submissions may include empirical studies, theoretical research, case studies, review articles, and conceptual and discussion papers. We encourage both quantitative and qualitative research approaches, and transfer of research into practice.
